After reading our bedtime stories, I gave Grant the option of reading one of his little readers to me before going to bed. At first he said he didn't want to which was fine with me. After I told him that was okay, he quickly changed his mind and said he wanted to do it so I let him look through the little reader book in his room while I was putting Landon to bed and he ran in Landon's room a few minutes later so enthusiastic ready to read his book.
He got to sit on a little kid's bench in Landon's room that we called "the reader's bench" and we all sat on the floor and listened to him read it by himself without any help or prompting. He was so proud of himself and of course, we made a huge deal of this big learning milestone. Next, Peyton got a turn on "the reader's bench" and he did a great job of storytelling by looking at the pictures. He has such a great imagination and little personality! It was a very fun family moment.
Once I tucked Grant into bed, he asked me if I could help him read books with more words in the morning. Now that he has the confidence, he is so excited about reading and it gives me so much joy to get to have a hand in educating them each day and having moments like these. It really makes all the hard work worth it!
