Happy 5th Birthday Grant!

Five years ago at 6:26 p.m, Grant Ryan Garrett entered the world weighing a big 8 lbs. 10 oz. and measuring in at 20 3/4 in. Our lives would never be the same again. I can still clearly remember my pregnancy with him when I went in for my first appointment and I was told that I could be having a threatened miscarriage. I remember how we just continued to pray for this child that everything would be okay. I can also very clearly remember getting the phone call from the doctor telling me how great my hormone levels looked and that it appeared that things were looking good. Then, there was the first time I saw his heart beat when I was 8 weeks pregnant. I also remember the long weeks where I was on bed rest. While I wasn't one of those women who just loved being pregnant, I was thankful I was able to experience the miracle of carrying a child and we just prayed throughout all the various complications with my pregnancy, that we would have a healthy child.

As you can see by his weight, he didn't arrive early and he was very healthy. I can still remember the first time I saw him. He had such a thick head of dark black hair. I am so grateful that God chose to bless us so immeasurably five years ago with Grant's life. He truly has added so much joy and wonderful memories to our family!

Here is my top 10 list of things I love and appreciate in Grant (no particular order)

1. His creative and imaginative mind.

2. Both his funny and serious facial expressions.

3. His sweet heart. Most of the time, he is always thinking of something nice he can do or make for someone, especially one of his brothers. He is usually the first to initiate sharing one of his toys with them without being prompted. I love the way he loves his brothers. Of course, he has his moments where you don't see the brotherly love, but overall, he is always looking out for them and wanting to do something nice for them. He is very good about thinking of others too. I always love when he goes outside to pick flowers and brings them to me or will give them to others that are over at our house.

Grant with Peyton the day we brought Peyton home from the hospital.

Peyton started crying and Grant immediately went over and started rocking his carrier. From day one of being a big brother, he has always had a connection with both Peyton and Landon.

Grant wanted to be a part of everything the nurse did to Landon. He was very concerned for Landon when they took blood and even held his hand. Here he is checking Landon's temperature for the nurse. :)

Grant wasn't asleep here. He was just so content holding Landon.

4. He has a strong sense of right and wrong and isn't afraid of speaking up for what is right. We are now in the process of working on saying it respectfully. :)

5. He truly has a servant's heart. I don't know how long this will last, but when I clean house, he always wants to help...even mopping the floor.

6. From the time he could talk, he has always had a sensitive heart to the things of God by asking questions and making connections.

7. His energy. He loves to have a good time and sees the joy in almost everything! :)

8. His sense of humor. He really likes to make people laugh and enjoys playing jokes on people.

9. His curiosity and love for knowledge. He keeps life interesting because he loves to learn new things which keeps us learning new things.

10. His personality. He loves meeting new people and making new friends. He just makes life fun and entertaining.
