10. Our honeymoon! A honeymoon is supposed to be a relaxing and fun trip but relaxing wasn't really part of our trip. The way this trip (the beginning of our lives together) would unfold was just the beginning of the crazy events that would follow us in our lives. While we had fun, it was not without its own set of adventures which included a lot of random circumstances (getting a twin bed put in our room because of a communication error, being purposely led to barracudas (of course,we didn't know our guide was leading us over to barracudas) on a snorkeling trip, getting bit by a dolphin, and getting a parasite were just a few of the strange events of our honeymoon. This will be a post for another day.
9. Vince breaking his shoulder in a freak accident in New York where he needed 3 surgeries. This is a funny story now. This will be another one that I'll have to post about later.
8. Taking a dinner horseback riding trip in the Arizona desert. Upon leaving the ranch, a rattlesnake slithers right in front of my horse. This was just a foreshadowing of events to come on this trip. When we arrived at the dinner, there was a snake at my feet under the table in the sawdust. Needless to say, my nerves were a little shot. On our ride back, our guide told us to not let our horses stop and rest because rattlesnakes come out at night and the horses will just sit down in the desert and not get back up. My horse decided to do just this. Of course, my horse was the only one to do this. I kept kicking the horse to go when he stopped but he decided to take a pee break and then just sat down. I started screaming and putting my legs up in the air as if that would stop a rattlesnake from striking up at me. I did make it back in one piece but that was the end of my cowgirl days.
7. Having our previous house being struck by lightening more times than we could count.
6. Peyton breaking his elbow from falling out of a chair the night before my scheduled c-section with Landon.
5. I ran a 1/2 marathon by the very hospital where I had received treatment for MS two years prior and not having any symptoms or problems in 5 years.
4. Vince being laid off 3 times in 3 1/2 years. (2 of the times were right before our 2nd and 3rd child were born). I thought that only happened when you were not doing a good job. Instead, he left these jobs with great recommendation letters.
3. Receiving an anonymous money order on our doorstep to go toward the rest of the month's bills on the day we ran out of money when Vince was laid off from his job the first time. Then, he started a full-time job the next month. God provided just when we needed it and we did not go in any debt after having our 2nd child and Vince being out of work for 13 months. That is a miracle that only God can do!
2. Having a surprise pregnancy with Peyton. Shortly, after finding out we were pregnant, we were told to prepare for a miscarriage because his heart rate was so low and they had never seen progesterone levels so low and a pregnancy continue. He was born 16 months to the day after Grant was born at a healthy 8 pounds 10 oz. We were told he was a modern day miracle.
1. Currently waiting for our biggest miracle of all... Vince's 3-month severance from the church ran out at the end of December and God opened a sudden door just before Christmas and Vince started work in January. After just three weeks in, we learned that they incurred some unexpected budget hits after Vince started and just cannot afford his position as they thought they would. Thus, his position dissolved and duties divided and absorbed by others. So we very suddenly found ourselves back at square one. We now have a little over $100 to our name and we know God will provide and meet our needs. Regardless, of what happens (even if we lose everything) we are at peace that God will somehow work all of this out for the good and we look forward to celebrating when He does.
*We have learned throughout our lives together, that you have to laugh at all your circumstances. We have gotten used to hearing "that never happens" or the chances of that happening are 1 in a million. We defy logic and we have come to the point of just laughing and saying "of course, that has never happened" or "what next?" because what good is it if you can't try to find some kind of humor in every situation no matter how hard the circumstances may seem at the time.
